My 2 year old grandson already looks for the Moon when he looks at the night sky – not that I am trying to get him interested in astronomy of course :). Here are few shots using a DMK 21AU04.AS Mono camera. The higher magnification pictures were taken through the OO AG12 whilst the lower magnifications were through a relatively inexpensive 4″ Skywatcher Achromatic refractor.
Large crater near the top right is Aristoteles, lower middle right is crater Archimedes. Taken at 15ps with the DMK21au04.AS mon camera and AG12.
Similar frame to above but taken at 30fps:
Sample video from which the best frames are taken in order to stack together to get a better still image of the Moon. North is roughly at 1:30 o’clock. The large crater towards the top and to the right is Plato.
Now shown with north at the top, this image was done using a Skywatcher 4″ Achromatic refractor. Mare Imbrium in the centre with crater Plato at the top middle slightly offset to the right. Mare Serenitatis is the large circle at about 2 o’clock and Mare Tranquillitatis is below Mare Serenitatis in the bottom right. The site of Apollo 11 landing is roughly along the bottom of the picture and towards the left hand side of Mare Tranquillitatis.
The following image was taken with the OO AG12 and is a close up on Mare Imbrium.
Another image with the Skywatcher but slightly less use made of registax wavelets.
