The Sun – Partial Eclipse 29 March 2025

A partial eclipse covering about 35% of the Sun was due to commence at about 10am on 29 March 2025 and would finish around 12 noon. My friend, Fred Deakin, had kindly loaned me his Coronado PST (40mm Ha optical system, 1.0 Angstrom Ha bandpass filter and a 30mm etalon). In order to achieve the necessary back focus for my ZWO 294MC Pro OSC camera, I needed to use this with a x2.5 Tele Vue Powermate barlow lens. Here it is…

I decided to have a play with the equipment on 27-3-25 so I would be ready to use it on the 29th when the eclipse would occur. The following images were taken on 27-3-25, the second being an enlargement of a Solar prominence in the bottom right (gif animation taken over several minutes).

The following gif was created using Pipp (after processing in AS4 and WaveSharp)

Finally, here is a video of the eclipse on 29-3-25, sadly there were a lot of clouds in the middle of the 2 hour session. There were 615 videos taken using a gain of 250, each consisting of 120 frames at an exposure of 84ms. Processing in AS4 and WaveSharp and Blender to create the mp4.
